A mild and overcast Autumn day had me venture out for my work today as a support worker with a train obsessed Participant. I have being eyeing off Mt Evelyn Garden Centre for several years now, yet never had the opportunity to drop in since they added their W Class Tram Xpresso Cafe. I knew "Mr Train's" would love it.
We had our brunch inside the converted carriage which was full of nostalgia and memories for this 1976 baby, but had my plant obsessed eyes wandering to the plantings on the outside. After devouring their delectable scones, we disembarked and made our way around the plant nursery.
I am currently on a plant buying sabbatical, and focused my attention to the atmosphere and displays- not a single plant was picked up. When you have worked in the Nursery Industry since the early 90's, its slightly easier these days to not give in to temptation. (Oh the temptations...)
Anyway, this nursery ticks all my boxes. A perfect ratio of healthy plant species, quirky, yet clear tram signs, friendly staff and disability friendly paths free from clutter. And the gift/decor shop. Swoon. I love a good gift shop in a nursery. They have all the unnecessary trinkets, scents and local made things that make my heart sing. Unforturnately Mr Trains heart sings to other songs so I wasn't blessed with the time to ooh and ahh my way through.
This is such a great hidden gem in The Dandenong's and a must do in these Autumn Days enroute up the mountain or to Hahndorfs up in Montrose.
